Trout Fishing Report

June 24th, 2016 by Lake Forest Cabins

Trout were biting! Fishing report provided by Hosanna Hills Fishing:  Yesterday we fished close to Beaver Dam and caught and released 7 or 8 trout in a very short time, about 25 minutes, The fish were hitting all of the light colors of powerbait. Today, I fished in the same location, but started at 9 AM just to see if the later hour was going to affect the bite. It did not, as you can see in the picture. The colors that worked best were salmon peach and yellow. If you decide to fish at the site nearest to the Dam, remember that no one is allowed to be closer than 100 yards from the dam. I noticed that a fly-fisherman was about 40 yards from the structure. He is very lucky that he was not accosted by the Game and Fish, or even worse, by the Feds. Go out and have fun, but try not to get into a ‘jam.’
Generation is scheduled from 1 through 7 PM today. The high temperature is expected to hit 92º F. with a ‘real feel’ of 106. The winds are from the SW at 6 to 8 MPH under partly cloudy skies. There is a good chance of afternoon and evening thundershowers.

Fishing White River

June 11th, 2016 by Lake Forest Cabins

Fishing White River with Hosanna Hills Fishing we launched at Houseman Access at 6 AM. Because several boats had launched at the same time and headed upstream, we immediately began trolling downstream dragging two different Rapalas. We began catching whites on one lure, but not the other. Corrected the situation by tying on the same type of successful lure on the other rod. The whites were pretty scattered; but, as you can see in the picture, they were in the biting mode. Trolled until around 8:30, when the bite slowed to a crawl. We moved upriver of the Hwy 62 bridge and tried bait fishing. Talk about slow! After catching a couple of rainbows on bait, we decided that trolling would be more effective. It was. There were a good number of boats on the river, perhaps a corporate package of some sort. Do not know how they fared, but some of them were still on the river when we pulled out. The morning was almost the perfect temperature for being out on the river. However, by 9:30 or so, it was time for sunscreen.
The generation for today is scheduled from 3 through 5 PM. The winds are from the SSW at 5 to 7 MPH, under mostly sunny skies. High temperature for the day should be 89º F. If you plan on going out, do not forget your sunscreen!

Fishing Report Eureka Springs

June 8th, 2016 by Lake Forest Cabins

Fishing Report for the White River in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

Sam took a client out to flyfish yesterday morning. When he launched at Bertrand, he noted that there was no flow in the river. Flyfisher-folk really desire a little flow in the water to cause some movement of the flies. This usually results in a better catch and a much happier fisherman. They headed down river about 8 AM, initially fishing between Bertrand and Spider Creek. No ‘flow’ resulted in slow fishing. But, the Corps came to the rescue by beginning to generate 4 hours early. Wait a second, they wanted a LITTLE flow not a Texas flood! Fishing continued with a slight change of plans regarding where the boat was coming out of the water. The trailer was moved to Houseman where the haul out was much easier to accomplish in the faster current. Regardless of the generation schedule change, it was another beautiful day on the White River.
This morning, Sam and I launched at Housman at 7 AM and trolled downstream looking for white bass activity. As seen in the picture, we found them as well as a couple of trout. We could have exploited the whites in the areas that we caught them, however, we wanted to see how far towards Beaver the fish were active. The whites hit Rapala CD-7s, black on silver, and on Rapala scatter raps of the same size and color. If you want to get a few, our advice to launch around 6 AM and serve them breakfast. The largest in the photo was 3.2 lbs.
Generation today began at 10 AM and is scheduled to go through 9 PM. The high temperature predicted for the day is 83º F. under sunny skies. The winds will be northerly from 4 to 6 MPH.

White River Fishing

June 2nd, 2016 by Lake Forest Cabins

White River Fishing Report Courtesy of Hosanna Hills Fishing Guides

Over the past few days, bank fishing at locations other than Bertrand has left a little bit to be desired. Tuesday, I fished close to the 100 yard mark from Beaver Dam and off the gravel bar downstream from the launch ramp. The fishing nearest the dam was nonexistent while the gravel bar bite was slow, about every 20 minutes.
Wednesday, the bite at the holes down river from the Parker ramps pretty much was a reflection of Tuesday’s action…..slow to none. Was told that the stocking truck could not access the river near the dam because they would have to back too far into the river to find adequate depth to release fish. The stocking pipe at Parker is still buried under gravel, so stocking there is not feasible. The truck then moved to Bertrand, where all of the trout were released.
Based on that information, I fished at the Bertrand launch ramp on the White River from 7 to 8 AM today and caught 4 trout in 45 minutes. The trout were pretty active until the water began to flow back toward the Beaver Dam. This is caused because Table Rock Dam downriver was not generating, so the water released from Beaver could not flow through, causing the water to back up and flow back upstream. This is not an unusual phenomenon.
Generation today is scheduled from 10 AM through 9 PM. The high temperature for today should be 73º F. under cloudy skies. Watch out for late morning and afternoon thundershowers. The winds are predicted to be from the NNE at 5 MPH.

White River Fishing Report

May 29th, 2016 by Lake Forest Cabins

What a fantastic morning to be on the river! Hope you and yours took advantage of this PERFECT morning to be on the White River. The winds were nil, the temperature was mild enough to warrant a t-shirt and the trout were ready to make the fishing experience a memorable one. Launched at Bertrand Launch Ramp at 7:00 AM, and, with a charming couple aboard, fished our way downstream to Houseman Access. Fished several spots with power bait and trolled between them when we were looking for a different background. The trout bit on chunky cheese, yellow, salmon peach and garlic. Trolling success was due to a 1/4 oz Colorado gold on silver spoon. We boated about 20 fish and, as one can tell by the photo, the guide kept his limit, since Hosanna Hills is in the ‘collect fillets for smoking’ mode. The five trout that were released were either too small or too large. The birthday lady aboard set the example of how to catch with bait, while her husband demonstrated trolling technique. There were many boats out on the water for this Memorial Day weekend. Since tomorrow promises to be another perfect day, try to get out and treat yourselves.
Generation is scheduled to be from 11AM through 11PM. The winds today are westerly at 2 MPH, under partly sunny skies.

White River Fishing

May 23rd, 2016 by Lake Forest Cabins

White River Fishing Report brought to you by Hosanna Hills Fishing Guides

Contrary to rumors, I’ve not gone ‘toes up,’ just been too lazy to write a report for the last three days. Fished on Saturday at White Bass Cove and was ‘skunked’ on the white bass. The whites are pretty much the same in the lake as they are in the river; that is, some days they are there and the next, they are elsewhere. If you are fishing from the bank, you cannot go search for them.
Sunday, we fished on the river near Beaver Dam and began catching trout just when the Corps blew the horn to generate….three hours before the posted schedule. That is not a complaint, since the schedule is subject to change without notice. It would have been nice if they had blown the horn before they began their generation instead of after since we were fishing 100 yards below the dam. At least we saw the water begin to come out from under the dam. They did sound the warning horn about 4 minutes after they began to generate.
This morning fishing in the river near the dam started off ‘hot’ for the first three trout. Within 10 minutes, three were on the stringer. After that, it took 40 minutes to catch the last two. Guess the fish needed a coffee break! So did I, so it was back to the Hosanna Hills fish cleaning station. There were no other fishermen on location for the time I fished this morning. Since it should be a great day to fish, if you are not working, go wet a line!
Generation for today is scheduled from 3 through 5 PM. The high temperature for the day should be 77º F. under mostly cloudy skies with a chance of afternoon thunder showers. The winds are from the SSE at 8 MPH.

White River Fishing Report

May 20th, 2016 by Lake Forest Cabins

White River Fishing Report for 5-20-16
Sam launched from Bertrand Launch Ramp at 11:30 this morning with an Iowa crew of two aboard. Initially, they trolled with Colorado spoons and were rewarded with a couple of trout before they reached Spider Creek Island. Because the bite was a bit slow, they switched to power bait and spent the remainder of the trip catching really nice trout in the Spider Creek area. There is a great quantity of bait between Bertrand and Spider Creek, so, if your fishfinder screen goes black or fills up with a bunch of ‘static,’ it is merely shad minnows. As you can tell from the picture, the trip was quite a success, leaving everyone happy! This trip, like my last one, added five fish to the guide’s larder.
Spoke with a guide who had spent part of the early morning at White Bass Cove catching, guess what, white bass. He showed me the cooler full that he had caught on floating bass lures. Guess where I plan on being in the early AM.
Generation for tomorrow is expected to be only for 5 PM. The high temperature for tomorrow should be around 70º F. with ENE winds of 4 MPH. The day is expected to begin sunny, turning partly cloudy in the afternoon.  http://www.hosannahillsfishing.com
